Three admirals stationed in Hawaii, including the head of the Pacific Command’s special operations, were nominated this week by the Pentagon to receive their second star.

The three promotions, subject to Senate confirmation, are:

» Rear Adm. Colin J. Kilrain, commander of Special Operations Command Pacific at Camp H.M. Smith.

» Rear Adm. Bret J. Muilenburg, commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific at Pearl Harbor.

» Rear Adm. Nancy A. Norton, director for command, control, communications and cyber for the U.S. Pacific Command at Camp H.M. Smith. Norton also will be assigned as director of Warfare Integration Directorate in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon.

Kilrain, a career Naval Special Warfare SEAL officer commissioned in 1985, was named to head the Special Operations Command last year. He completed basic underwater demolition/SEAL training in 1986. He is married to a former Navy aviator and NASA astronaut, Susan Kilrain, who has made two flights into space.

Muilenburg, a native of Titusville, Fla., graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1984 and was commissioned into the Civil Engineer Corps.

Muilenburg was serving as senior engineer assistant to commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Engineer, at Pearl Harbor when he was promoted in 2013 to head the Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

Norton graduated from Portland State University and was commissioned in 1987 as a general unrestricted line officer through Officer Candidate School. An Oregon native, she holds a master’s degree in computer science from the Naval Postgraduate School and a master’s in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College.

Also, six recent general officer changes were announced by the Pentagon:

» Air Force Brig. Gen. Abel Barrientes’ promotion to the rank of major general. Barrientes is serving as the mobilization assistant to the vice commander, Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

» Army Brig. Gen. Gary M. Britoto’s assignment as deputy commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.

» Air Force Col. Barry R. Cornish’s promotion to the rank of brigadier general. Cornish is serving as executive officer to the commander, Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

» Air Force Maj. Gen. John L. Dolan’s promotion to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, U.S. Forces Japan, and commander, Fifth Air Force, Pacific Air Forces, at Yokota Air Base in Japan.

» Maj. Gen. James F. Pasquarette’s assignment to commanding general, U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward), Japan. He is deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Pacific.
