Moore regains No. 1 ranking

Hawaii’s Carissa Moore regained her spot as the World’s No. 1 surfer with a win at the season-opening Roxy Pro Gold Coast in Australia.
Moore beat Australia’s Stephanie Gilmore 18.43-15.50 in the final, putting back-to-back rides of 9.40 and 9.03 together. Gilmore’s best ride was her first, where she scored an 8.33.
Moore scored 16.86 points to take out Tyler Wright in the semifinals and 17.67 to beat Lakey Peterson in the quarters.
Moore, 22, will return to Hawaii for next week’s Surf N Sea Pipeline Pro before returning to Australia to try to defend her title at the Rip Curl Pro Bell’s Beach over Easter weekend.
