Firefighters beat back flames, save Kailua-Kona home

Hawaii County firefighters saved a single-family wooden home after fire broke out in a carport in Kailua-Kona Monday evening.

Arriving firefighters found a vehicle on fire in the carport  and flames beginning to spread to a home at 76-6162 Plumeria Road, according to a Fire Department report.

Firefighters were on scene at 6:04 p.m. following the 5:56 p.m. alarm. They brought the flames under control at 6:10 p.m., before the fire spread within the home.

No damage estimate was immediately available. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
