Time change for Hawaii-USC sand match
Wednesday’s sand volleyball dual match between No. 1 Hawaii and No. 3 USC (3-0) will begin at 4 p.m. at the T.C. Ching Complex campus courts.
Earlier schedules had given the start time as either 1:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. The Rainbow Wahine (4-0) and Women of Troy officially open the campus courts with the Nos. 5 and 6 pairs at 4 p.m., followed by the Nos. 3 and 4 pairs.
OC Sports will broadcast the No. 2 pairs match live at 7 p.m., with the No. 1 teams meeting 15 minutes after the end of the 7 p.m. match.
The SandBows also host the Queen of the Beach pairs tournament, Friday at Queen’s Beach and Saturday at the Ching Complex. Also participating are Cal (3-3) and Nebraska (0-0) with play both days beginning at 9 a.m.
Sunday’s dual matches at the Ching Complex begin at 3 p.m. between Cal and Nebraska. Hawaii plays Nebraska at 7 p.m. and Cal at 8 p.m.
Takara, Gheorge honored by PacWest
Chaminade junior Kimberly Takara shared Player of the Week honors with Hawaii Pacific’s Lorena Gheorge in PacWest women’s tennis.
Takara, a Mililani grad who missed nearly a month with an injury, won both of her singles matches last week and one doubles match. Gheorge celebrated her award by helping the Sharks to a 7-6 win over Azusa Pacific in San Diego, Calif., on Tuesday.
The Hawaii Pacific men beat Azusa Pacific 9-0.
Silverswords swept in softball
Faulkner University of Alabama swept Chaminade 5-2 and 10-4 in a softball doubleheader at Sand Island Park.
The Silverswords banged out 10 hits in the first game, but Faulkner scored four runs in the sixth to steal it. The Eagles jumped on the Silverswords 8-0 in three innings in the second game. Chaminade dropped to 3-19, while the Eagles improved to 10-4.
Moore places third in heat on North Shore
Carissa Moore, the No. 1 surfer in the world, took it easy and finished third in her heat at the Surf N Sea Pipeline Pro on the North Shore.
Moore finished behind Keala Kennelly and Emilia Perry. Sophia Bartlow, Bailey Nagy and Honolua Blomfield also won their heats.
A champion will be crowned on the next day of competition. The event doesn’t offer points to the world title Moore is chasing.
