$350,000 worth of damage caused by fire, official says
A fire started by unattended cooking that displaced four men in Manoa on Wednesday caused $350,000 in damage, a fire official announced Thursday.
Honolulu Fire Capt. David Jenkins said the fire began at about 5:15 p.m. on the second floor of a single-family home at 3059 Woolsey Place.
Thirty-five firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire and extinguished the blaze in about 40 minutes, Jenkins said. The home was destroyed.
Jenkins said the fire caused $320,000 in damage to the structure and $30,000 in damage to the contents of the home.
Drowning victim a Washington state woman, city says
The city Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday identified the 29-year-old woman who drowned Monday off Kaimana Beach in Waikiki as a visitor from Washington state.
Herma Amalia of Pullman, Wash., drowned, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. Her death was classified as accidental.
Amalia was found unresponsive in the ocean at about 6:40 p.m. Monday. Paramedics transported her in critical condition to a hospital, where she died just before 8 p.m.
2-year-old boy hit by moped is sent to hospital
A moped reportedly struck a toddler Thursday in Ewa Beach, Emergency Medical Services officials said.
The 2-year-old boy was in serious condition after being struck at about 3:25 p.m. on Kilaha Street, EMS said.
Paramedics transported the child to a hospital emergency room.
