COURTESY JUDY MERTENS The sign, circa late 1940s/early 1950s, is from Kitada’s Kau Kau Korner, a popular restaurant in Makawao for decades before it closed in 2003. Below it are prints of watercolor paintings of buildings in town by well-known Makawao artist Eddie Flotte. Among the items in the case are chaps used by Maui paniolo, on loan from the Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum, a polo mallet and ball, and a hat made by Makawao paniolo Raymond Freitas in 1953.
