Vehicle hits, hurts pedestrian in crosswalk
A 65-year-old Honolulu man was in critical condition Sunday morning after being hit by a vehicle in Waikiki, police said.
The man was walking in a marked crosswalk on Kapahulu Avenue, south of Lemon Road, when he was hit at about 12:55 a.m. The driver, a 59-year-old Kailua man, was heading north at the time of the accident.
Police closed the northbound lanes of Kapahulu Avenue for about three hours to investigate.
Kamehameha Highway is reopened
Police reopened Kamehameha Highway in Kahaluu on Sunday, one day after a single-vehicle crash knocked down a utility pole, closing the roadway.
Police said Kamehameha Highway near Waihee Road was reopened at about 1 p.m.
Saturday’s crash injured two men and knocked down a utility pole between Waihee and Wailehua roads at about 4 p.m. Saturday. The two men were transported in undisclosed condition to an area hospital.
Police closed the highway in both directions starting at about 4:20 p.m., rerouting traffic through the Kahaluu neighborhood.
Man charged with sex assault of teenager
A 31-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Makaha.
Philip Leonin Rodrigues of Noholio Road was charged Friday with second-degree sexual assault.
His bail was set at $75,000.
Police said the victim reported being sexually assaulted by Leonin Rodrigues and a 15-year-old boy while socializing at the Leonin Rodrigues home.
Leonin Rodrigues and the boy were arrested at Leonin Rodrigues’ home Thursday afternoon.
