Firefighters dousing hot spots from large Kauai brush fire
Crews from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife on Tuesday continued to extinguish hot spots from a large brush fire in Kokee on Kauai.
Roughly 200 acres on the west side of Waimea Canyon Drive were scorched before county and state firefighters contained the blaze at about 7 p.m. Monday, according to a news release by the Kauai Fire Department.
Crews responded shortly before 2 p.m. Monday to the fire that broke out on state property about three miles from Waimea Canyon Drive. The Kauai Fire Department initially reported that three separate brush fires had occurred in the same area.
Police closed a portion of the roadway from 2 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m. Monday as crews worked to contain the fire. The cause has yet to be determined.
