Benefit dinner to feature chef of Pig and the Lady
The Pig and the Lady go back to school.
Chef Andrew Le is working with Leeward Community College culinary students to prepare an eclectic menu for the Chef Showcase Dinner, April 10 at the college’s fine-dining restaurant, The Pearl.
Dishes include Salad of Sprouting Seeds, sashimi, gnocchi, Shinsato Farm pork and Caramelized Avocado Cake. Master sommelier Chuck Furuya will pair the wines.
The event, held each semester, allows students to learn and work alongside professional chefs.
Cost is $70, $85 with wine. Seatings begin at 6 p.m. and run through 7:30 p.m. To reserve a spot, call 455-0298.
Waikiki eateries support MDA soiree at the Royal
The Muscular Dystrophy Association hosts its 16th Annual Spring Soiree April 11 at the Royal Hawaiian hotel.
Featured will be dishes by chefs from Azure, Tiki’s Grill & Bar, MAC 24/7, RumFire and SKY Waikiki as well as liquor tastings from Anheuser-Busch of Hawaii, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and Johnson Brothers.

Kids are ready to peddle their unique lemon drinks
Lucky for thirsty lemonade fans, the "kid-preneur" challenge is back.
Students kindergarten to 12th grade have squeezed their lemons, built their booths and practiced their pitches for this year’s Lemonade Alley Challenge, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 11 in the Toys R Us parking lot across Pali Momi Medical Center. The event has kid teams creating a unique lemon drink and learning business basics and charitable giving.

KCC wins silver in culinary contest
Kapiolani Community College’s Team Hawaii 2015 represented the state at the American Culinary Federation’s Student Team Western Regional Championship last week in Nevada and brought home a silver medal.
The team — Beverly Wing Yin Luk, Jason Park, Davin Schmidt, Kenneth Lee and Linawati Towne — was one of six teams to compete Friday and Saturday at the College of Southern Nevada. They attended with chef-coaches Jason Peel and Grant Sato.
California’s Orange Coast College took top honors and will move on to the national championship.
Other competing teams hailed from Washington, Utah, Colorado and Oregon.
