Big Isle man, his student killed in hang glider crash near Vegas

JEAN, Nev. » The two people killed after a hang glider crashed to the ground near Las Vegas have been identified.

The Clark County coroner’s office said 11-year-old Arys Moorhead of Farmington, N.M., and 55-year-old John Harrison of Waimea, Hawaii, died in the Friday crash.

The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. along state Route 604 on a dry lake bed in Jean.

Las Vegas police said the hang glider was tethered to a Wills Wing Tandem Hang Glider tow truck when it fell from the sky.

Police said Harrison was an experienced pilot and instructor during the tandem flight with his young client.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified of the incident and the Las Vegas police accident unit is investigating.
