Moore moves on to quarterfinals
Hawaii’s Carissa Moore was impressive in her Round 3 heat on Sunday at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach in Victoria, Australia.
The two-time world champion delivered the day’s highest single-wave score (9.67) and two-wave heat total as she advanced to the quarterfinals with her 18.50 heat total. In another Round 3 heat, Alessa Quizon finished in third place with a 12.36 combined score and will move to a fourth-round heat. Hawaii’s Tatiana Weston-Webb and Coco Ho have yet to surf their Round 3 heats.
In Round 2 heats, Weston-Webb defeated Laura Enever (Australia) 14.10-14.00, Quizon beat Malia Manuel 13.33-13.00 and Ho got by Dimity Stoyle (Australia) 13.84-12.26.
» On the men’s side, three Hawaii surfers advanced out of their Round 2 heats. Keanu Asing defeated Michel Bourez 14.66-5.40, Freddy Patacchia Jr. got past Kai Otton 12.43-11.83 and Sebastian Zietz beat Italo Ferreira 17.24-11.10. Dusty Payne was the lone Hawaii surfer who fell in Round 2. Asing, Patacchia Jr. and Zietz join John John Florence and Mason Ho in the third round.
