Online images reveal homeless behaving badly
A local real estate broker has done a community service by documenting deplorable conditions at Waikiki pavilions that are dominated by homeless individuals who drink and loiter there.
The photos and videos that Mark Howard posts online vividly illustrate a situation that demands urgent attention — starting with imposing personal responsibility on the homeless people involved. There is a public bathroom only a few hundred feet away, yet the individuals depicted in Howard’s blog relieve themselves in view of passersby — unwilling to conform to the most basic standards of health and decency.
Fleets of rented bikes poised to roam the streets
Bikeshare Hawaii execs say they’re on pace to get a full network of bike-rental stations in Honolulu in about a year’s time. These stations enable people to swipe a credit card and get the use of a bicycle they can drop off at another kiosk. If people can do a little casual biking without supplying their own wheels, there should be better usage of the controversial King Street cycle track. On the other hand, tourists might go whole-hog for this scheme, barreling along streets they don’t know. That’s been the experience in Kailua, the other place on Oahu with bike rentals.
