Diver and disabled boat rescued
The Coast Guard rescued a diver in trouble late Friday about a mile off Kaena Point.
At 10:08 p.m., officials at the Honolulu Command Center received notification from a disabled mariner that one of his passengers was diving 500 yards away, became distressed and was drifting offshore.
The boater was unable to retrieve the diver, but was able to keep an eye on him because he was wearing a light.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Barbers Point took off at 11:24 p.m. and arrived on scene 22 minutes later, the Coast Guard said. The crew hoisted the diver out of the water and flew him in good condition to ambulance crews waiting at Yokohama Bay.
The Honolulu Fire Department then towed the vessel to Waianae Boat Harbor.
