U.S. Pacific Fleet’s senior enlisted leader was relieved of his duties Thursday after an investigation found that he "had not performed up to the high standards of his office," the Navy said.
Fleet Master Chief Marco A. Ramirez lost his job amid allegations that he violated travel rules, Navy Times reported. The publication said an investigation concluded Ramirez manipulated the Defense Travel System.
Ramirez was relieved by Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, "due to a lack of confidence," the Navy said in a release.
The removal resulted from the initial findings of an investigation, Pacific Fleet said.
Ramirez assumed his duties as fleet master chief in April 2013. He has been temporarily assigned to another directorate within U.S. Pacific Fleet pending final adjudication of the case, the command said.
Russell S. Mason, force master chief for the U.S. Pacific Fleet submarine force, has assumed fleet master chief duties pending assignment of permanent relief, the Navy said.
