Master musician Kimo Hussey will preside over a series of ukulele workshops at the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives.
Hussey is co-author of "He Mele Aloha," a popular Hawaiian music songbook. He is offering four two-hour Saturday workshops starting this week.
Hussey is the founder and board chairman of the Pacific Music Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to Hawaiian music.
Here is the workshop schedule:
» Opening Up the Fretboard: Left-hand techniques that ensure lifetime growth, 9 a.m. Saturday.
» Five Principles of Responsible Right Hand Technique: Embracing emotion in ukulele music, 1 p.m. Saturday.
» Combining Melody and Harmony: Fun practice strategies that ensure meaningful interpretation, 9 a.m. May 2.
» Achieving Balance in Ukulele: Learning to play visually versus aurally; balancing left- and right-hand techniques, achieving balance in repertoire, and how to include proven principles of music organization in ukulele playing, 1 p.m. May 2.
