Willmon named BWC player of the week
A productive weekend on the road earned University of Hawaii outfielder Lindsey Willmon the Big West softball Field Player of the Week award on Monday.
Willmon hit .556 (5-for-9) with a double in UH’s series win at Cal Poly and scored twice in the deciding game on Saturday. The sophomore hit safely in all three games and paired hits in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, driving in a run in the finale.
The Rainbow Wahine (26-19, 7-5 Big West) return home to face UC Santa Barbara (15-30, 2-10) in a three-game series starting Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
UH women’s golf in second place
The University of Hawaii women’s golf team remains in second place following the second round of the Big West Conference Women’s Golf Championships at the El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif., on Monday.
Sophomore Raquel Ek fired a career-low 68 to move within a stroke of the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine have a two-day total of 581, which is 12 shots behind leader UC Davis.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday.

Day One complete at PWC Golf Champs
University of Hawaii Hilo’s James Coon shot a 3-under 69 in the first round of the Pacific West Conference men’s golf championship on the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah. Coon, a freshman, trails the leader by two strokes as the Vulcans shot 305 as a team.
» Jarin Harada fired a 1-over 73 and is in a five-way tie for ninth-place for Chaminade, which is 30 shots behind the leader.
» Zane Loveland shot even par, good for a tie for seventh, for Brigham Young-Hawaii, which shot 12-over 300, two strokes behind third-place.
Andi Igawa, a freshman for Hawaii Hilo, is tied for eighth place in the women’s championship. Igawa fired a 5-over 77 to help the Vulcans shoot 346, good for seventh place.
Talataina, Wilson earn softball honors
BYU-Hawaii third baseman Lizabelle Talataina and Hawaii Hilo pitcher Danielle Wilson earned Pacific West Conference honors for this week.
Talatina, a freshman from Huntington Beach, Calif., went 14-for-26 with six extra base hits and drove in 12 runs. Wilson, a sophomore pitcher from Chino Hills, Calif., earned both wins in a doubleheader sweep against Chaminade. She is seventh in the conference with 13 wins on the season.
» Notre Dame de Namur defeated BYU-Hawaii 7-0 and 7-6 in a Monday doubleheader in Belmont, Calif.
In game one, the Argonauts broke open a 1-0 game in the sixth by scoring six runs.
The Seasiders (10-32 overall, 6-26 Pacific West Conference) led 6-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before Notre Dame de Namur 22-27, 16-12) scored the walkoff victory with a two-run base hit to left field.
BYU-Hawaii wraps up the season on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Menlo College, beginning at 9 a.m. HDT.
Holt takes PWC baseball award
Hawaii Pacific pitcher Harley Holt was named Newcomer of the Week for the second time this year. The senior from Kamehameha Schools pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out a career-high nine.
