Woman’s body pulled from ocean off Maui
The body of a woman was found Tuesday floating in waters off South Maui.
Betty Colleen Drexler, 63, of Allyn, Wash., was unresponsive in the water, and fire rescue workers were called to Ulua Beach at 9:34 a.m. Tuesday, Maui police said.
Beachgoers pulled her from the water and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation, police said.
Responding police and fire rescue workers took over life-saving efforts when they arrived at the scene, according to police.
Drexler was dead at the scene, police said.
An autopsy is planned.
Hiker is hurt in fall on trail to lighthouse
A woman was injured Tuesday after falling about 15 feet onto rocks from a
trail leading to the Hana lighthouse on Maui.
Maui firefighters responded to the incident at about 12:30 p.m. and found a 34-year-old woman had fallen onto rocks near the edge of the water, according to a Fire Department release.
She was conscious but had head injuries, firefighters said.
The woman had been hiking with two friends when she slipped and fell.
She was treated by paramedics, then taken to the Hana Ball Park, where she was medevaced to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition, according to firefighters.
The woman is on Maui with an out-of-state group living on the island temporarily for work.
