The Honolulu FBI is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing 9-year-old girl, who is believed to be with her noncustodial parent, Brian Donald Kirk, possibly on Hawaii island, the FBI said Monday.
The child, Brianne Kirk, lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., with her mother, who has primary custody, according to an email news release from the FBI.
Brian Kirk currently lives in Pine, Colo., but used to live on Hawaii island, and has extensive social and family ties there.
Kirk took temporary custody of Brianne Kirk on March 22, for a spring break visit.
He sent the girl’s mother a text message March 24 that he was taking Brianne Kirk to Kona to camp on a vacant lot at 15-1982 20th Ave., Keaau, in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision, in Puna.
Brianne Kirk was supposed to be returned to her mother March 30, but the FBI said that did not happen.
The FBI verified Kirk and his daughter arrived in Kona on March 24, and there is no evidence they left by plane.
A warrant for Kirk’s arrest and a court order commanding law enforcement take physical custody of Brianne Kirk were issued in Jefferson County, Colo.
Brianne Kirk is white, 9 years old and less than 4 feet 5 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Brian Kirk is white, 57 years old and 6 feet tall and 185 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
“The FBI is appealing to Mr. Kirk to cooperate with the Colorado custodial orders and return Brianne home to her mom. Her family back in Colorado is concerned, and they wan tto know that Brianne is safe,” FBI Special Agent Tom Simon said.
There is no reason to believe Brian Kirk intends to harm his daughter, but the FBI seeks to ensure Kirk’s safety and to return to her mother, Simon said.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of either Kirk is asked to call the FBI on Oahu at 566-4300.
