Hawaii County police are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting in which at least one bullet hit a woman’s house in the Leilani Estates subdivision in Puna late Monday.

After responding to a 10:48 p.m. call Monday, police learned that the 47-year-old woman heard gunshots from the road on the 13-1200 block of Leilani Boulevard followed by the sound of a vehicle driving away in the makai direction. She then discovered a bullet hole in her house, which was occupied by five persons, police said.

Detectives recovered a bullet from inside the home. The case is being investigated as five counts of first-degree reckless endangering.

Police ask anyone with any information about the incident to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Robert Almeida at 961-2386 or robert.almeida@hawaiicounty.gov.
