Cal State Northridge entered last week’s series with Hawaii with just one loss in Big West play powered by an offense averaging 5.3 runs per game.
By the end of the weekend, Brittany Hitchcock had helped Hawaii hang two more losses on the Matadors while holding CSUN to four runs in her 14 innings in the circle.
Relying on her penchant for forcing ground balls and escaping jams, the Rainbow Wahine freshman picked up complete-game victories in the opener and finale in UH’s series win against the Big West leading Matadors.
She got 16 of her 21 outs on grounders in UH’s 4-3 win in the first game while leaving eight CSUN runners on base. The Matadors racked up 12 hits and put runners on in every inning in the deciding game. But Hitchcock repeatedly denied the Matadors in a 2-1 victory and improved to 16-7.
The Rainbow Wahine (29-22, 10-8 Big West) close 2015 with a three-game series against UC Davis. UH and UCD play a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on senior day on Saturday.
