Hawaii clinches series with fifth straight win

Alex Sawelson doubled, tripled and scored twice and Johnny Weeks went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead Hawaii to a 6-2 win over UC Riverside on Friday at Riverside Sports Complex in Riverside, Calif.

Eric Ramirez drove in two runs and Stephen Ventimilia doubled and scored for Hawaii (20-26, 11-9), which won its fifth straight road game.

Tyler Brashears allowed two runs over 7 1/3 innings to improve to 8-4 and tie Matt Sisto for the most wins by a UH pitcher in a season since 2007.

Brashears, the two-time reigning Big West pitcher of the week, has won his last four starts and has pitched into the eighth inning each time.

He left with runners on the corners and one out in the eighth as UC Riverside (13-34, 2-15) brought the tying run to the plate.

Hawaii brought in sophomore Quintin Torres-Costa, who struck out the next two batters to get out of the eighth. He allowed a single and a walk in the ninth before closing out his eighth save.

Sawelson led off the ninth and scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 6-2.

Hawaii has won five straight on the road for the first time since 2006.

Torres-Costa extended his scoreless innings streak to 21 over 13 appearances.

UH will try and complete a perfect 6-0 road trip in the series finale on Saturday at 3 p.m. Hawaii time.
