Medical condition suspected in crash
A 49-year-old Honolulu man may have suffered a medical condition before a single-vehicle accident on Queen Emma Street on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Paramedics treated the man and transported him in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died at 4:09 p.m., police and Emergency Medical Services said.
Police said the man was driving a gold 2004 Toyota pickup truck heading north on Queen Emma just south of School Street when the truck veered off the road and hit the curb.
The truck crossed the southbound lanes of traffic and crashed into a guardrail by the Queen Emma Street overpass at 3:13 p.m., police said.
Police closed the southbound lanes of Queen Emma Street between Royal School and Iolani Avenue but reopened them at about 5 p.m.
According to an Emergency Medical Services report, the driver, a 49-year-old man, apparently lost control of the pickup truck he was driving before the crash.
This was Oahu’s 20th traffic fatality this year, compared with 23 at the same time last year.
