Police open murder case after man dies in fight

Police opened a murder case Sunday after a 52-year-old man died following a fight in Waimanalo.

The incident occurred about 3:35 p.m. Saturday and involved the victim and a 46-year-old Waimanalo man.

After the physical confrontation, the victim was taken to a hospital where his condition deteriorated, police said.

The younger man was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Castle Medical Center for investigation of first-degree assault.

Police said the victim later died and the case was reclassified to a second-degree murder at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
