The Hawaii State Farm Fair will be the site of the Best Local Pie Contest, which challenges creative bakers to use as many local ingredients as possible in their pies.
Deadline for entries is June 20. Three finalists will be selected to present their pies July 11 at the fair at Kualoa Ranch. A panel of judges will rank the pies.
The contest is sponsored by the Hawaii Farm Bureau and Big City Diner. Prizes are $100, $200 and $500, along with Big City Diner gift certificates and Hawaiian Host gift baskets.

Workshops offered at free farm event
The third annual Kahumana Farm Festival aspires to be "Planting Seeds of Hope," 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kahumana Farm & Cafe in Waianae.
The free event features local food and produce for sale, a plant exchange, workshops for gardening and aquaponics, and more.
The cafe is at 86-660 Lualualei Homestead Road.
Try Nepalese food at coffeehouse
The International Vegan Dinner Club, which explores different cuisines weekly, will feature Nepalese food Tuesday at Coffeeline Campus Coffeehouse across the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Chef Madana Sundari presents food that is gluten-free, mostly organic and low in salt, sugar and oil.
The dinner runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. Plates are $13.50, $5 for ages 8 to 12, and free to ages 7 and under. The venue is at 1820 University Ave.

Champagne and tea on tap at reception
The Women’s Fund of Hawai‘i hosts its annual Tea & Champagne Reception 5 to 9 p.m. Monday.
A $110 fee covers tea, Champagne, heavy pupu, keynote speakers and such activities as auctions, prizes and the popular Dessert Dash.
The Women’s Fund raises money for organizations that serve women and girls.
