UH basketball player Webster-Chan to turn pro
Hawaii basketball swingman Negus Webster-Chan told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on Tuesday he will forsake his remaining two years of college eligibility to turn professional.
The Rainbow Warriors’ top 3-point marksman from the 2014-15 season said he is in the process of hiring an agent and has lined up workouts with pro scouts. He would have been a fourth-year junior in the fall.
"It was that time for me," Webster-Chan said.
He is hopeful to join an NBA team as a free agent — he missed the NBA Draft deadline of April 26 — but is open to playing pro overseas.
New UH coach Eran Ganot declined comment.
Webster-Chan, of Canada, transferred to UH from Missouri prior to the 2013-14 season. He had to sit out that season as a redshirt player per NCAA rules.

In the recently completed season under interim coach Benjy Taylor, Webster-Chan led the team in both 3-pointers made (64) and 3-point percentage (.410). He started 25 of 35 games and was sixth on the team in scoring average at 8.3.
Webster-Chan wished well UH fans, his UH teammates and coaches and the state of Hawaii.
