Hurricane Andres Category 2 storm; no threat to land

    A cluster of severe thunderstorms is also firing up over northwestern-central Texas just ahead of an incoming cold front. Hurricane Andres can be seen in the bottom right-hand corner of this satellite image. This storm is currently moving northwest at seven miles per hour with maximum sustained winds at eighty-five miles per hour.

MIAMI >> Hurricane Andres remains a Category 2 storm in the eastern Pacific, but still poses no threat to land.

The first named storm of the season had maximum sustained winds of 105 mph Saturday afternoon. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami is forecasting little change in the storm’s strength until Sunday, when it is expected to weaken gradually.

Andres is centered about 700 miles off the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, and is moving northwest at 8 mph.
