Sunday marks the opening of a new farmers market in Haleiwa by the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation, 8 a.m. to noon at "Backyard Haleiwa" behind the North Shore Market Place, 66-250 Kamehameha Highway.
Some 30 vendors include The Pig and The Lady, Pit Farm, Milner Farm, North Shore Farms, Small Kine Farms and more.
Enter the market from Cane Haul Road or Opaeula Street.
Landowner D.G. Andy Anderson says there are plans in the next 18 to 24 months to open a 6,000-square-foot structure to house a public market close to the existing site.
Learn to make healthy snacks
Vegetarian chef Alyssa Moreau is holding a snack class that proves that, when done right, snacks can boost energy and be healthy.
"Delightfully Delicious … Cooking with Alyssa" will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 6 at The Green House, 224 Pakohana St.
Moreau’s snacks include Flax Granola Peanut Butter Bars, Okinawan Sweet Potato Energy Balls and more.

Sample sake at hotel festival
Sample more than 80 varieties of sake alongside dishes by a host of eateries at the Hanami Sake Festival, 6 to 9 p.m. June 10 at Hawaii Prince Hotel.
Participating restaurants include Urawa Japanese Fusion, Tokkuri-Tei, Bernini Honolulu, Tango Contemporary Cafe, Hakone and Prince Court.
Cost: $90 advance, $100 at the door. For ages 21 and older.

New cookies will aid keiki
Cookies and children go hand-in-hand, and now the Honolulu Cookie Co. has joined forces with DFS stores to help the Make-A-Wish Hawaii foundation.
The company is launching the Cookie Keiki Collection that features various characters on packaging. Prices range from a $8.50 box of mini cookies to a $32 Lunch Box that includes a coloring book.
One dollar from every Lunch Box sold will go to Make-A-Wish Hawaii.
