A 400-acre brush fire that has burned on Pokii Ridge for more than three days was 80 percent contained as of Monday evening.

Kauai firefighters were joined by state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife personnel from Kauai and Oahu in battling the remote blaze, which was first reported on Friday evening.

Much of Monday’s activity focused on dousing hot spots within the affected area, according to DLNR spokesperson Deborah Ward.

Firefighters will monitor the area overnight and resume efforts to extinguish the fire on Tuesday.
