Flood advisory expires for southwest coast of Oahu
A flood advisory was issued for the southwest coast of Oahu by the National Weather Service, according to the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management. The advisory expired at 5:45 p.m.
The weather advisory said heavy rain was occurring at a rate of one to two inches an hour between Waianae and Makakilo.
The advisory, issued at 2:56 p.m., was in effect until 5:45 p.m., according to the department.
The department advised the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
The advisory said rainfall and runoff could also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding and reduced visibility and poor vehicular braking action.
It warned people not to cross fast-flowing or rising water in a vehicle of on foot.
