A man and a woman who tried to get out of paying their restaurant bill were being held by police Sunday on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

Honolulu police said a 32-year-old woman left the restaurant in Waikiki without paying at about 1 a.m.

Police said when the man left without paying, he was stopped by a restaurant employee.

Police said the 31-year-old man struck the employee, a 60-year-old woman, to escape.

But suspects were located by responding police officers and arrested at Ala Moana Boulevard and Atkinson Drive at 1:44 a.m. Sunday.

The two were being held pending further investigation.
