Kelly Slater, 11-time World Surf League champion, dominated the 6-to-8 foot swells at Cloudbreak in Tavarua, Fiji, during the third round of the Fiji Pro on Sunday.
Slater, a four-time winner of the event, posted a heat-high total of 18.57 (out of a possible 20) to eliminate Hawaii’s Fred Patacchia Jr., who scored 10.17.
Dane Reynolds, a wild-card competitor at the Fiji Pro, upset Brazil’s Adriano de Souza, 18.34 to 13.64.
Hawaii’s Dusty Payne and Keanu Asing were also eliminated, while Sebastian Zietz looks to advance in his third-round matchup on Monday.
Campbell champions to speak at QB Club
Multiple student-athletes and coaches representing state-champion competitors from Campbell’s baseball and track and field teams will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club’s Monday luncheon.
The Sabers also claimed the HHSAA state softball championship in the spring.
The Honolulu Quarterback Club meets on Mondays at the Maple Garden Restaurant. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.
