A 48-year-old man was charged with second-degree criminal property damage Monday after he allegedly smashed a dozen television sets at a "big box" store in Kailua-Kona.
At 6:49 p.m. Monday officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a store on Henry Street. Police did not disclose the name of the store.
Witnesses reported that the suspect, Alexander Springer, had grabbed a bat from the store and used it to destroy 12 televisions. Police said a store customer stopped him and took him outside while waiting for police to arrive. Damage was estimated at $4,081.
Springer was arrested and later charged. His bail was set at $2,000.
