Hawaii unemployment steady at 4.1% in May

    Hawaii’s unemployment rate held steady at 4.1 percent in April, the fourth consecutive month at that rate. Above, Garrett Gates and Rashad Muhammad looked at an employment application package from Starwood Hotels and Resorts at the Career Expo held in August at Neal Blaisdell Center.

The Hawaii State Department of Labor & Industrial Relations said the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May was 4.1 percent, the same as in the preceding four months.

Statewide, 648,750 were employed and 27,400 unemployed in May for a total seasonally adjusted labor force of 676,200.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.5 percent in May, up from 5.4 percent in April.
