Police release Kailua-Kona woman without charges in domestic case
Hawaii Island police have released without charges a Kailua-Kona woman who was arrested early Monday after a domestic dispute sent a man to the hospital in critical condition.
On Tuesday afternoon, after conferring with prosecutors, detectives released the 18-year-old woman, who was being held at the Kona police cellblock, pending further investigation.
A 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man was taken to Kona Community Hospital late Sunday with a laceration to his left forearm. He was later transferred to Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu, where he remains in critical condition.
At 10:05 p.m. Sunday, Kona patrol officers were at Kona Community Hospital for an unrelated case when the man arrived in a private vehicle and was taken to the emergency room.
Investigation revealed that he had received the injury during a domestic altercation at a home on Awakea Street in Kailua-Kona.
Shortly after midnight, officers arrested the woman on suspicion of first-degree assault and abuse of a family/household member.
