Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has been nominated for Best Male College Athlete for ESPN’s ESPY awards.

Mariota, who became Hawaii’s and the University of Oregon’s first Heisman Trophy winner last December, was nominated along with other college standouts, Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin basketball), Logan Stieber (Ohio State wrestling), Dansby Swanson (Vanderbilt baseball) and Jack Eichel (Boston hockey).

Mariota was a star quarterback at Saint Louis and led Oregon to the national championship his redshirt junior season.

He collected most of college football awards during the postseason, including the Davey O’Brien and Johnny Unitas awards as college football’s best quarterback and the Maxwell and Walter Camp awards as the best player.

In April, he was drafted second overall by the Titans and brought hope and buzz to a struggling franchise. Mariota remains the only unsigned first-round draft pick.

The ESPY show will be telecast on July 15. Online fan voting, which will be open until just before the show is aired, will help determine the winners of most of the awards.

ESPN announced its list of awards, including Best Male and Female Athlete.

Best male athlete nominees were Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Cleveland’s LeBron James, Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and Houston’s J.J. Watt.

Best female athlete nominees were MMA’s Ronda Rousey, UConn basketball player Breanna Stewart, skier Lindsey Vonn and tennis star Serena Williams.
