Makaha man is charged with murder
A 24-year-old Makaha man has been charged with murder, possibly in connection with the death of his infant son.
Nathaniel Christian Kipi of Lahaina Street was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the main police station for investigation of second-degree murder. He was charged, and his bail was set at $150,000.
Police only said Kipi was arrested for a grand jury bench warrant in connection with a 2013 case, but the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death of Kipi’s son, Tama Michael Nainoa o Kalani Wilbur, to be a homicide.
Wilbur, who was less than a year old, died March 24, 2013, of complications from "abusive head trauma," according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
