The nine final-table players in the World Series of Poker’s Main Event have been determined.
The leader is Joseph McKeehen with 63 million in chips, a towering 33 million more than the second-biggest stack. Last in the field is Federico Butteroni, with just over 6 million. The players range in age from 23 to 72, and represent four countries, including six from the United States and one each from Israel, Belgium and Italy.
All nine of the finalists will win prizes in excess of $1 million, with the champion taking down $7.7 million. The “November Nine” will reconvene at the Rio on Nov. 8 to determine poker’s new world champion.
Volcano cutback: There’s a lot less heat at the Mirage these days. The famous volcano on the Strip, which used to erupt nightly, every half hour from 8 to 11 p.m., now goes off only twice on most nights. Shows are at 8 and 9p.m.nightly, with an additional 10 p.m. show on Fridays and Saturdays.
Meet the mob mayor: The former mayor of Las Vegas and legendary mob attorney Oscar Goodman hangs out in his namesake steakhouse at downtown’s Plaza on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Goodman tells stories, signs copies of the two books written about his life, and generally hobnobs with anyone who shows up and wants to talk.
Dollar beers: A $1-beer play is always good. And if one is good, two is better. The main bar at downtown’s Las Vegas Club sells draft Rolling Rock or Hamms, served in 12-ounce plastic cups, for a buck. Better yet, you can get $1 PBR in the bottle 24/7 at the iconic Stage Door bar on Flamingo just east of the Strip.

Answer: Not gone, just on hiatus for the summer. After only about a month of performances, “Suzanne Sizzles” took a break and will return to the Westgate Sept. 15, with dates running through the end of April.
