Officers from the police Narcotics-Vice Division seized suspected gambling machines Thursday from a Palolo Valley market.
Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said the officers made the seizure Thursday afternoon from the New Valley Store, but no one was arrested.
The market was the scene of a June 20 robbery attempt and the fatal shooting of Keni Pologa, 44, who reportedly provided security for the store’s new owner.
An Oahu grand jury indicted Wilbur Gutierrez, 43, Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a permit.
Second State Hospital worker attacked
For the second time in two weeks, a 44-year-old patient has allegedly assaulted a worker at the Hawaii State Hospital in Kaneohe.
The patient was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree assault. The victim was a 56-year-old woman whom he allegedly attacked with his hands.
On July 23 he allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old man.
In both instances he was released pending further investigation.
Man, 33, injured in robbery in Hilo
Hawaii island police are investigating a robbery Thursday that left a 33-year-old man with serious facial injuries.
The victim told police that he was in the area of Keawe Street in Hilo when two males approached him from the back and punched him. The suspects took the victim’s wallet and cellphone and attempted to take his backpack before fleeing.
One suspect was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a dark complexion and stocky build. The other suspect was described as about 6 feet tall, with a dark complexion and stocky build.
