Hit-and-run suspect Chantel Andrade was apprehended Friday on the Hawaii island and brought to the sheriff’s booking station in Kakaako.

The 40-year-old Kalihi woman, who was a fugitive for three weeks after she was indicted in the hit-and-run traffic death, entered a plea of not guilty Thursday morning in Circuit Court to killing 25-year-old motorcyclist Keith Jantoc of Mililani in mid-April.

Chantel Andrade was arrested at 9 a.m. Friday in Hilo by deputy sheriffs who transported her to Oahu.

Her case will be heard by Circuit Court Judge Dean Ochiai on Oct. 12.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Andrade on July 14 on charges of fleeing the scene of a fatal accident, a Class B felony, and driving without a license. In addition, she has one criminal misdemeanor bench warrant and seven traffic misdemeanor bench warrants.

Andrade’s bail is $100,000.

She entered her plea via a closed circuit video from Oahu Community Correctional Center, where she is being held.

Andrade turned herself in on April 16 — a day after the accident —after her SUV was found with motorcycle parts in its grille at a Pearl City parking lot. She was initially arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder but was released two days later pending investigation.

Jantoc was killed April 15 in the accident that occurred in the town-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway near the Kunia on ramp.
