Furlough inmate missing for more than 2 weeks caught in Puna
State deputy sheriffs on Hawaii island captured missing furlough inmate Donald Soares, who has been missing for nearly three weeks, Wednesday morning in Puna.
Soares failed to report to a Kona extended furlough house for his scheduled check-in on the evening of July 30.
The arrest happened at about 7:15 a.m.
Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the facility but must check in at various times throughout the month.
Soares was serving time for burglary and theft. His next parole hearing was scheduled for November. He could be charged with escape.
