Top section of Punchbowl home ‘total loss’ after fire

A fire at a five-story multi-family home in the Punchbowl area caused an estimated $230,000 damage Saturday night.

The top section of the hillside terraced home is considered to be a total loss and is a collapse hazard, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Ten fire companies responded to the 11:31 p.m. alarm and arrived at 1980m Puowaina Drive five minutes later to find a three-story multi-family home with the top level engulfed in fire.

One woman was home at the time of the fire, but was able to escape without injury.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 12:23 a.m. and extinguished it at 12:52 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause is undetermined.
