Firefighters return to Punchbowl home to extinguish re-kindled fire

Firefighters returned to the scene of a fire in the Punchbowl area Monday morning after the blaze re-ignited.

Firefighters returned to a home on the slopes of Punchbowl early Tuesday morning after a fire that destroyed the top floor of a three-story home late Saturday night started up again. 

The fire at 1980 Puowaina Drive was reported at 3:21 a.m. Monday. The re-kindled fire was contained to the top section of a terraced home. It was brought under control at 3:37 a.m. 

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of Saturday’s fire which caused $200,000 to the structure and $30,000 to its contents. 

No injuries were reported. 

The fire on Saturday was reported at 11:31 p.m. and brought under control at 12:32 a.m. 

Police closed Puowaina Drive between Hookui and Prospect streets while firefighters battled Monday’s blaze.

The road reopened by 5:15 a.m.
