The National Weather Service extended a flash flood watch for Oahu, Niihau and Kauai until 6 a.m. Sunday and extended a flood advisory for Hawaii island as heavy rains and the threat of more rain continued.

“Moisture and instability are slow to clear Kauai and Oahu,” forecasters said Saturday evening. “These two ingredients will support heavy rains overnight, especially during the early evening hours. Saturated soils will increase the risk for flash flooding.”

However, forecasters said cooling tradewinds should return to Oahu and Kauai on Sunday and into next week.

A small craft advisory for the Alenuihana Channel is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.

A flood advisory for Oahu was canceled around 7:30 p.m., while an advisory for Hawaii island was canceled around 10:15 p.m.

Forecasters expect Saturday night’s cloudy, rainy weather to end when tradewinds return.

Sunday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with scattered showers. Most showers will be in the windward and mauka areas favored by tradewinds. Highs will be between 87 and 92 and winds will be from the east at a brisk 15 to 20 mph.

The tradewind weather should continue through the end of the week.

There’s a chance of more rainy and unsettled weather next weekend.
