Woman who had baby cut from womb feels compassion for attacker

BOULDER, Colo. » A Colorado woman whose unborn baby was cut from her womb says she feels compassion for the woman facing charges in the case and says she hasn’t lost faith in humanity.

Michelle Wilkins said in an interview on the "Dr. Phil" show that she lost consciousness after she was stabbed and slashed. She said she was unaware of the loss of her baby until the next day at the hospital, when her boyfriend told her that the baby was dead.

Dynel Lane is charged with attempted murder, unlawful termination of a pregnancy and multiple counts of felony assault. Prosecutors say she attacked Wilkins and removed the unborn baby girl from her womb March 18.

Lane remains jailed in Boulder County on $2 million bail. Her trial is expected in February.
