Police identify man who died while swimming off Wailea
Maui police identified the 70-year-old man who died Sunday afternoon after he was pulled from waters off Polo Beach in Wailea.
According to Maui Fire Department report, Larry McMurry, a visitor from Gardnerville, Nev., was seen swimming in the area. Beachgoers found the man floating face down in the water and brought him ashore around 3:45 p.m.
Staff from the Kea Lani Resort performed CPR on the man until firefighters and paramedics arrived around 3:53 p.m.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The officials cause death is pending the outcome of the autopsy.
