No tsunami threat to Hawaii from strong Chilean quake
A strong earthquake off the coast of Chile Monday morning does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck 29 miles west-southwest off the coast of Illapel, Chile at a depth of 15.3 miles at 7:39 a.m. Hawaii time, according the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected and that there is no threat to Hawaii.
No injuries were immediately reported.
