With "Hawaii Five-0" starting its sixth season Friday night, here are 10 character arcs to watch:
>> McGarrett’s love life: According to the CBS promos and spoilers, McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) is going to ask longtime love Catherine (Michelle Borth) to marry him. Will she say yes? A new recurring cast member, Sarah Carter, joins the show as McG’s new love interest, Lynn, so chances are that marriage to Catherine is not on the horizon. If nothing else, it should be very interesting to watch McG handle his affairs of the heart.
>> Catherine’s return will be tumultuous: After a year in Afghanistan teaching and helping the family that once protected her, Catherine’s return for Kono’s wedding seemed like quite a surprise to McG. If she does say yes, then the plot about possible-love-interest Lynn might go the way it did when Ellie Clayton (Mirrah Foulkes) was touted as a potential McG girlfriend. As of the end of last season, McG and Ellie are "just friends."
>> Danny’s new son: Last season, Rachel (Claire van der Boom), Danny’s ex wife, admitted that her son, Charlie (Zach Sulzbach), is actually Danny’s biological child. Charlie is 3 years old now and Rachel has come out with the truth to help the child fight an auto-immune disorder. Charlie needs a bone marrow transplant and Danny is a match. While Danny is very angry at Rachel, he does seem thrilled that he has a son. Look to see how he builds this new relationship.
>> Rachel is persona non grata: Rachel lied to Danny; her husband, Stan (Mark Deklin); and her daughter Grace (Teilor Grubbs) about Charlie’s parentage. So if we see her this season, it’s not going to be pretty.
>> Chin moves on: Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) dated Leilani (Lindsay Price) after meeting her during a prison riot in Halawa, but this season he’s getting a new girlfriend. Actress Julie Benz will guest star as a visiting detective from San Francisco, who seems to have a lot in common with our steadfast Chin. For Chin to pursue another relationship while still not quite over his late wife, Malia, will be interesting to watch.
>> Kono as a newlywed: Kono (Grace Park) is now married to Adam (Ian Anthony Dale). But she won’t have time to relax in wedded bliss. It looks like the resident villain, Gabriel Waincroft (Christopher Sean), will kidnap and terrorize the newlyweds. I guess the honeymoon will be postponed …
>> Adam is broke: Adam gave up his Yakuza ties — and along with them all the capital he had invested in his father’s business. In last season’s finale, he told Chin he was going legit. It should be interesting to see Adam transition from a man of means to living on Kono’s cop salary.
>> Jerry finds the treasure: Jerry (Jorge Garcia), our resident conspiracy theorist, is back helping the team unravel a few mysteries. Last season, he helped quite a bit, but has yet to be added to the payroll.
>> Lou becomes a drill sergeant: The team is going to go through some SWAT training, Grover-style (Chi McBride). I’m sure the crew can handle it, but it will still be great fun to watch.
>> Gabriel is becoming the new Wo Fat: It looks like Gabriel has truly taken Wo Fat’s (Mark Dacascos) place, as he shows his violent and scary side. Gabriel, who last season killed Chin’s arch nemesis with a pen through the eye, has already warned that he will make Chin’s life miserable. And he’s going to start by turning Kono and Adam’s honeymoon into a horror ride. We love Gabriel as the new villain. We’ll see if he eventually suffers the same fate as Wo Fat.
