With a playoff berth on the line, the East edged the West in the battle of the Bulldogs on Friday night at Kaiser stadium.
Kaimuki’s Billy Masima racked up 164 rushing yards in the 26-19 victory over Waialua, highlighted by an 88-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Senior Jaren Feary led Kaimuki’s defense with two interceptions in the second half.
Waialua trailed by seven points with 1:21 remaining after Royce Tashiro’s 9-yard pass to Tavesi Toia. Waialua’s Aaron Nunez recovered the on-side kick at the 50-yard line, to give the Bulldogs a chance for a comeback win.
Waialua would get as close as the 36-yard line but a brutal hit forced Tashiro to exit the game with less than a minute left. Toia replaced Tashiro as quarterback, but Kaimuki’s Sisifo Lauvao would sack him for the last play of the game.
