» Fall Cooking Recipes (11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, $25): Chef Alyssa Moreau demonstrates quick and easy vegetarian dishes perfect for the fall season using herbs from The Green House’s garden, including savory kabocha bean stew; garlicky beets with greens, quinoa and tofu nuggets; and butternut bisque with crisp sage leaves.
» Intro Cooking Series (3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 17, $40 series): Chef Toby will teach kids ages 8 to 11 to prepare local and organic ingredients. Students will harvest from the garden and learn basic cooking skills and a little about nutrition.
Taste of Korea celebrates ethnic fare
The Hawaii Korean Cultural Center is holding its second annual Taste of Korea on Oct. 16 at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii.
Chefs from Lucky Belly, MW Restaurant, The Pig and the Lady, Waipuna Sushi, Charley’s, Ohana Bento & Sushi and Haili’s Hawaiian Food will put their spin on Korean dishes, while Sorabol will provide authentic cuisine. There also will be a liquor tasting at night.
The event runs 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $80. Call 535-8460.
Sample spirits, gourmet food at benefit
Get into the fall season with “Downtown Uncorked: Autumn Harvest.”
The benefit for the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business and Leadership will feature wine and sake tastings, and gourmet food, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at Cafe Julia courtyard.

Mizukami takes key role at Chef Mavro
Jonathan Mizukami has moved on from his duties as executive chef at Vintage Cave to become chef de cuisine of Chef Mavro restaurant.
The Maui-born chef, a graduate of the Maui Culinary Academy, is a former sous chef at the three-star Michelin restaurant The French Laundry. He replaces Jeremy Shigekane, who is taking his talents to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
His resume includes internships at El Bulli in Spain, Alinea in Chicago, Per Se in New York, and Gordon Ramsay and The Fat Duck in the United Kingdom.
Chef Mavro is owned and run by George Mavro- thalassitis, himself a James Beard Award winner .
