The Big West Conference named University of Hawaii junior Alli Cross as the Cross Country Athlete of the Week, which was announced Tuesday. Cross is the second Rainbow Wahine this season to earn the award.
The Lane Community College transfer finished the 5K Sacramento Capital Cross Challenge with a lifetime best of 17:44.7 on Saturday.
Seasiders edge Cal Baptist in five sets
The BYU-Hawaii women’s volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to beat Cal Baptist 22-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-9, 15-13 on Tuesday in Riverside, Calif.
Sinamoni Tonga led the Seasiders (7-7, 5-1 PacWest) with 15 kills and four blocks. Malary Reid added 14 kills and five blocks, while Ying Chun Chen posted her second double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs.
Jenna Perry led the Lancers (11-3, 4-2 PacWest) with a match-high 18 kills and four blocks.
BYUH women’s soccer wins on road
Natalie Reynolds scored two goals, including one in overtime, to lift the BYU-Hawaii women’s soccer team over Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1 on Tuesday in Carson, Calif.
Reynolds scored the game-winner 19 seconds into extra play on a free kick that ricocheted off the left post. She also scored in the 38th minute with an assist by Kate Gurney.
The Seasiders improve to 2-4-2 overall, and 1-1-1 in the PacWest. The Toros drop to 1-10-0 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

Michaela Maes scored the game-winner in the 74th minute for the Sea Lions (6-3, 3-1 PacWest), who outshot the Sharks (4-5, 1-3 PacWest) 24-6 in the match. HPU goalkeeper Lauren Spencer finished with 12 saves and sophomore Sara Romo scored the Sharks’ lone goal in the 48th minute.
HPU men’s soccer falls to Point Loma
The Hawaii Pacific men’s soccer team dropped its first conference game with a 3-1 loss to Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday in San Diego.
Erik Kemsies scored in the 70th minute for the Sharks (4-3, 2-1-1 PacWest), while Daniel Ten Bosch, Manu Montal and Indiana Fuller scored for PLNU (4-3-1, 3-1 PacWest).

Chaminade men’s golf wins invitational
The Chaminade men’s golf team posted a team score of 619 to edge Hawaii Pacific in the Chaminade Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Leilehua Golf Course.
The Silverswords had three top finishers, led by Jarin Harada’s final round 1-under 71. Harada’s final score of 150 led the field of 10 golfers, while Nont Panayanggool posted HPU’s best score at 160.
Three Vulcans named to All-American team
Three Hawaii Hilo softball players earned All-America Scholar-Athlete honors announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Outfielders Colleen Aubrey, Angela Aguinaga and infielder Brittany Huff were three of 5,493 players to earn the distinction by maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher during the 2014-15 academic year.
Lenny, Appleby clinch SUP titles
Maui’s Kai Lenny and part-time Hawaii resident Candace Appleby won their divisions of the US Open of Stand Up Paddling with Appleby securing the world title after the event off Huntington Beach, Calif.
Lenny won the 500-meter sprint course under and around the Huntington Pier to take the overall title and move to No. 1 in the world rankings heading into the SUP World Tour finale at Turtle Bay later this month.
Haleiwa’s Mo Freitas finished third in the sprint and, combined with his runner-up finish in the distance race, finished second overall. For Appleby, she is 3-for-3 on the tour and clinched the world title ahead of the tour finale.
